Our real-time monitoring services deliver continuous infrastructure analysis, offering complete information about the system’s health. Should an event occur, predefined thresholds within the MS Colibri System instantly triggers a notification to any members you designate to take appropriate action.

In the electrical/data transport industry, with uptimes at a premium and long distances to carry, maintaining the structural health is extremely critical.


Power lines often exist within hostile environments. Wind, water, and weather events seek to continuously wreak havoc. Compound that with the ever-present danger of lines as a target from malicious attacks, and it becomes clear why customers come to us for our unique monitoring services.


Structural monitoring significantly improves Electrical Line management and safety by regularly analyzing system health parameters. This monitoring can help you detect imminent failure, identify its location, and undertake preventative maintenance. Typical parameters that we monitor are strain, curvature, temperature distribution, and third-party intrusion.

MS COLIBRI FIBER OPTICS SENSING TECHNOLOGY

Implementing fiber optics sensing technology provides an ultra-stable, continuous sensor over long distances to detect the following:

  • LINE DEFORMATION
  • ICING
  • 3RD PARTY INTRUSION
  • CORROSION
  • GROUND MOVEMENT
  • OVERHEATING

These systems are highly accurate, providing location information in real time following an event. Further, our systems are intelligently designed to filter background noise from specific acoustic noise, so that alarms are only triggered by relevant events.


Through recent developments in technology, our services can provide fiber optic system monitoring along 60 km of electrical lines using a single fiber, and extended applications of up to 300 km with the use of optical amplifiers.


With the ability to measure temperature and strain over thousands of points along a single fiber, our customers can utilize this essential technology for a wide range of monitoring needs, such as: verifying normal line operation, detecting line deformation, and preventing line failure in landslide prone areas.


Detection services can further be used for optimizing transmission and detecting hot spots in high-power cables, among other implementations.

MS COLIBRI ACOUSTIC EMISSION TECHNOLOGY

Acoustic Emission (AE) utilizes wave-sensing technology to alert system operators when material undergoes a change in its internal structure.


An example would be plastic deformation due to aging or line splitting due to strain forces following a critical event.


MS Colibri’s monitoring services utilize AE sensing to monitor elastic or stress waves that are generated when an event occurs within or along a material’s surface, and sends feedback alerts to key personnel to take action in real-time.


With AE you receive acoustic feedback, allowing you to "listen" to the sounds of cracks growing, fibers breaking and many other modes of active damage in stressed materials.


This technology offers our customers a low-cost solution to monitor hundreds of kilometers of pipeline infrastructure, all with high measurability and spatial resolution. Common implementations include:
