OVERVIEW

MS Python’s Pipeline Monitoring System is configurable to the unique requirements of oil pipelines. Smart sensors are placed along the bottom of pipes to actively monitor changes and notify operators to take preventative action. With long-term monitoring in place, our customers gain key insights to make informed decisions.

Structural monitoring significantly improves pipeline management and safety by regularly providing system health parameters. This monitoring approach can help you prevent failures, by detecting the problem and its position in time, and undertaking proactive maintenance and repair activities.


Typical parameters that we monitor are strain, curvature, temperature distribution, leakage, and third-party intrusion. To provide comprehensive monitoring services for our customers, MS Python combines two different kind of technology: Distributed Temperature Sensors (DTS) and Acoustic Emission (AE) sensing. Depending on the project, we can implement these technologies in conjunction or separately based on need.

MS PYTHON FIBER OPTICS SENSING
TECHNOLOGY

Implementing fiber optics sensing technology provides an ultra-stable, continuous sensor over long distances to detect the following:

  • LEAKS
  • 3RD PARTY INTRUSION
  • PIPE DEFORMATION
  • EROSION
  • GROUND MOVEMENT


These systems are highly accurate, providing location information in real time following an event. Further, our systems are intelligently designed to filter background noise from specific acoustic noise, so that alarms are only triggered by relevant events.


Through recent developments in technology, our services can provide fiber optic system monitoring along 60 km of pipeline using a single fiber, and extended applications of up to 300 km with the use of optical amplifiers.


With the ability to measure temperature and strain over thousands of points along a single fiber, our customers can utilize this essential technology for a wide range of monitoring needs, such as: verifying normal pipeline operation, detecting pipeline leakages, and preventing pipeline failure in landslide prone areas. 


Detection services can further be used for optimizing oil well production and detecting hot spots in high-power cables, among other implementations


MS PYTHON ACOUSTIC
EMISSION TECHNOLOGY

Acoustic Emission (AE) utilizes wave-sensing technology to alert system operators when material undergoes a change in its internal structure.


An example would be the formation of a crack within an oil pipeline, or plastic deformation due to aging.


MS Python’s monitoring services utilize AE sensing to monitor elastic or stress waves that are generated when an event occurs within or along a material’s surface, and send feedback alerts to key personnel to take action in real-time.


In particular, AE is occurring during the processes of mechanical loading of materials and structures accompanied by structural changes that generate local sources of elastic waves. This results in small surface displacements of a material produced by elastic or stress waves generated when the accumulated elastic energy in a material or on its surface is released rapidly.


With AE you receive acoustic feedback, allowing you to "listen" to the sounds of cracks growing, fibers breaking and many other modes of active damage in stressed materials.


This technology offers our customers a low-cost solution to monitor hundreds of kilometers of pipeline infrastructure, all with high measurability and spatial resolution. Common implementations include
